What were your closet staples in 2019? My go-to’s were white sneakers, faux leather, plaid dusters, and gold accessories. As this year comes to a close, I am reflecting on my past accomplishments and what I plan to accomplish in the upcoming year. Secondly, I’m reflecting on my style, and the trends I want to take with me into 2020. That’s important too right!? Having essential closet staples definitely makes dressing day to day much easier.

So at The Urban Elle, I’m sharing my 6 favorite closet essentials that I’m taking into 2020:
The Perfect Coat
Dusters are seen everywhere, and I’m not mad about it at all! It’s the perfect addition to a fall + winter wardrobe. Although this exact duster is sold out, there are similar dusters that I’m crushing on here and here. This duster, hands down, is my favorite trend of 2019. This closet staple can definitely be worn in multiple seasons, so you will get your money’s worth.
Shoe Game
I love a great pair of white sneakers! So browse my post here for a list of great sneaker options. Most importantly, Net-a-porter has a great selection of Alexandar McQueens and this exact pair shown is $336 (on sale). You don’t have to break the bank when adding this closet staple. Along with my list here, you can find a pair as low as $32 here. I love a great pair of white sneakers and glad it’s a 2019 trend I’m taking into 2020.
Faux Sure
How many of you love faux leather?! Faux leather has proven itself to be a major staple. Furthermore, countless fashionistas are rocking leather shorts with casual sneakers during spring + mild summers and with tights during the fall + winter months. Although the Ann Taylor faux leather shorts I have are sold out, there are a few options here, here and here. This is a cool and edgy closet staple.
High Rise Staple
Can we get excited about high rise denim?! High rise denim is the perfect pair of jeans for women of any size. Furthermore, Everlane has a great selection of high rise denim at a reasonable price point. Plus, I love that this closet staple can be worn with a cute pair of sneakers, loafers or the perfect pair of booties.
Gold Accessories
I can’t go into the new year without my two gold chains. Because a lot of stores are selling gold layered necklaces, you can get them for a pretty reasonable price. Check out my favorites here, here and here.
Animal Print
“If it ain’t leopard print, I don’t want it” has been my motto all 2019. For instance, I love animal print so much I wrote a post about it here. Don’t be afraid to add animal print to your wardrobe if you haven’t already. But first, check out some prints I’m currently crushing on these days here, here and here. Even if leopard print isn’t your thing, having some sort of print is a great closet staple.
